Service Description

Class: Foundations of Musical Improv, Level 4+ Dates: Sundays, October 27- December 22; no class Nov. 10th Time: 5:00- 7:00pm Showcase: Thursday, December 19 at 7:30pm Instructor: Jesse Markus Prerequisites: Advanced Spontaneity (level 3, formerly "Solid Scenes") class and a low-level working knowledge of music Note: Must be 18 or older to attend this class. This class will focus on the various tenets of musical improv (such as warm-ups, tempo, counterpoint, movement, etc) and break them down into easily understandable exercises and games, then we will focus on applying them to short-form and narrative improv. The first half of course will be focusing on the techniques of improvising a song, and the second half will focus on adding a theatrical flair. You don't need to be a highly "experienced" or "skilled" singer, just a person who loves music. This class will culminate in a showcase during the G.B.U on Thursday, December 19th. About the Instructor: Jesse Markus has been involved with the world of improv for 13 years. In that time, he has played and taught with various teams around the Western U.S. as well as helped found the nationally lauded Wasatch Improv Festival. Jesse loves character work and is super excited to help others with developing theirs!
